Volt Resources restarts graphite production at Zavalievsky

Volt Resources restarted graphite production at the Zavalievsky mine in Ukraine.

Volt Resources has announced the restart of mining activities at the Zavalievsky mine, which has achieved an average production of 54tpd graphite concentrate (88-96% C). The company acquired a 70% stake in the Zavalievsky Group of companies (ZG Group) in July 2021 which operates Zavalievsky Graphite - a long-life graphite producer since 1934 with a production capacity of 30ktpy graphite concentrate. After periods of supply disruption related to the Russian conflict in late February 2022, ZG Group resumed operations in early August, though mine operations were suspended in November as a result of water and tailings pipeline issues in winter and Russian missile attacks on power generation facilities in Ukraine.

Regardless of the low graphite output in Ukraine, Volt has been increasing its graphite landscape elsewhere by securing a position as a fully integrated natural graphite producer within the battery anode supply chain in China and Europe. This includes a feasibility study underway with Worley for a natural graphite anode plant and signed offtake agreements with Qingdao Baixing Graphite (12ktpy) and Graphex Group (10ktpy) for all stage one graphite concentrate production at its Bunyu graphite project in Tanzania.
