US DOE strengthens funding package for domestic battery and raw material production

The US Department of Energy announced a further US$3.5Bn in funding for domestic battery production facilities and raw material production under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law .

The US Department of Energy (DOE) announced a second phase of investments under the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL) of US$3.5Bn which will be made available to domestic production of advanced batteries and battery raw materials. The second tranche of support brings the total from the BIL to US$6.0Bn which has already precipitated a significant amount of further private-public funding for the development of battery and battery raw material production in the USA. The main aim of the BIL is to ensure the competitiveness of the US battery industry in the rapidly growing global market, further research and development into future battery technologies and reduce international dependence on foreign nations for key stages of the battery supply chain.
